About Me

I am Rosalie Mackinaw, and my food and nutrition journey began as a child with a love for food and cooking. I knew I was called to help women and children in my late teens when a close family member struggled with gluten at a time when there were minimal resources, education, and premade food options. In college, I did a specialized internship with high risk pregnancies in a hospital based environment. I saw first-hand how important food choice is during the antenatal, prenatal and postnatal period. I also discovered that the field of nutrition was young while the wisdom of our grand and great-grandparents was disregarded and considered insensible; although, that is far from the truth. Many times, the accepted methods of nutrition counseling were a struggle due to conflicting information, inconsistencies made healthy food choices difficult, and downgraded the social aspect of food. Because of this, I strive to make things understandable and practical for people. I love finding resources, sharing information, and assisting with better food choices or alternatives.

I love how the right foods can nourish a body, increase mental and physical wellbeing, and bring people together. I believe that our bodies change with time and with that, so should our food choices. As my nutrition needs continue to change, I continue learn and to modify my way of eating real foods to feel my best. Real food has amazing energy!

I was born and raised in California and moved to Texas to pursue my graduate degree in nutrition. I am happily married and have given birth to three girls in the presence of my husband and kids with the assistance of midwives. I experienced breastfeeding with all three kids and discovered the importance of nutrition and hydration postpartum as a nursing mother.

I have worked in the hospital both as a nurse and dietitian, and I have worked in the private sector as nurse and consultant. I understand healthcare from the perspective of a traditionally trained medical provider, yet choose to work within the framework of real food and wellness. I worked in mainstream health care for 22+ years: NICU, PICU, Peds, high risk pregnancy, private duty nursing, nutrition consultation and legal consulting. I left the hospital setting due to my frustration with the lack of consideration towards the importance of food. My belief is that food can nourish, energize, and heal.

I enjoy assisting people balance their lives with food first. Supplements are used complimentary and on an as needed basis to assist with balancing the body. Sometimes a body just needs a little extra nourishment. I am passionate about helping others expand their ideas regarding food and its powerful ability to nourish and transform.

Like many people, my own personal journey through health moved me in the direction of wellness. I continue to branch out into wellness, and I am currently working on my functional medicine certification.

I am a strong advocate and supporter of the body’s amazing ability to utilize food to transform and nourish a new life and a new family. I find great joy working with women and children. My greatest desire is to help women achieve nutritional balance and reach their health goals while assisting them in finding a happy, healthy place with food.

The road to balance is different for each person; I am ready to listen to each unique concern, question, and assist in optimizing food health for personal reasons, birth, or family. I am uniquely qualified as a nurse and dietitian and have diverse experiences working with healthy eating styles while respecting the cultural framework of food.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our 3 kids, 4 grandkids and 2 cats. I love cooking and learning all things “Foodie” and healthful. I like to walk barefoot, and enjoy snow skiing.

I would love the opportunity to meet with those striving to work with real food and help them find the best personal choices for their life-long, nourishing, real food journey.
